Purple Enel EB05 Guide

How to play purple Enel (OP15-058) in EB05, from our Pro AI's games and players' EB05 games: the list, the keep rule, turn order, the six-DON!! game plan, every main matchup and the mistakes that cost games.

In 60 Seconds

The plan
every turn from your 2nd, spend DON!! -1 on Events, then your Leader loads up to 4 DON!! onto one Character, then attack. Your DON!! deck is only 6 cards, and the load brings back what you spent. The kill comes on your 5th or 6th turn.
The list
the 1-costs (Ohm, Satori, Shura, the 1-cost Charlotte Pudding), Holly, the 0-cost Events (El Thor, Lightning Beast Kiten, Lightning Dragon, Mamaragan, Varie), Gamma Knife and the 8000 Enel. It's in The Deck.

Keep or redraw
two early bodies (two 1-costs, or one 1-cost plus Holly) = keep. One or none: mulligan.
The matchups that matter
  1. Xebec: our Pro AI wins 51%, players 70%; go 1st.
  2. Buggy: 71% (players 54%); go 1st.
  3. Sabo: 64% (players 62%); go 1st.
Top 3 mistakes
  1. Swinging one DON!! short.
  2. Loading before your Events.
  3. Spending the wrong counters.

Purple Enel in one line: our Pro AI wins 57% of its EB05 games with purple Enel (1,900) and players 62% (506), and it's a race deck: in our Pro AI's games, 89% of the ones that ended by turn 10 were wins.

What Is Purple Enel?

In short
  • A race deck with a 6-card DON!! deck.
  • The load: from your 2nd turn, your Leader puts your DON!! back on the field and hands up to 4 to one Character, so a 2000 1-cost swings as a 6000.
  • It runs out of steam: if they survive your first five turns, you're the underdog.
  • Double Attack: Holly gives it to herself and every Ohm. Each of those hits takes 2 Life.
  • Every DON!! you spend comes back: the load refills your field every turn, so DON!! -1 Events are close to free.
  • Fast or not at all: Pro won 89% of its purple Enel games that ended by turn 10, 46% of those on turns 13-14 and 21% of those that went past turn 16.

The Deck

In short
  • The bodies: Ohm, Satori, Shura, the 1-cost Charlotte Pudding and Holly.
  • The Events: El Thor, Lightning Beast Kiten, Lightning Dragon, Mamaragan, Varie (all 0-cost) and Gamma Knife.
  • The bigger bodies: Vinsmoke Reiju, Trafalgar Law, Senor Pink, Sanji and the 8000 Enel.

Satori (OP15-066)21-cost 2000; DON!! -1: draw 1; attacking, order your top 2
Shura (OP15-067)41-cost 2000 with Rush; DON!! -1: draw 1
Charlotte Pudding (OP12-071)41-cost 2000; look at 4 for an Event (or a Sanji)
Holly (OP15-071)33-cost 4000; Double Attack for herself and every Ohm
Vinsmoke Reiju (OP12-063)35000 Blocker; 7000 and cost 9 with 4+ Events in your Trash
Trafalgar Law (ST10-010)25000 Blocker; DON!! -1: they trash 2 if they hold 7+
Senor Pink (OP10-067)26000; DON!! -1: an Event back from your Trash, and set a DON!! active
Sanji (OP07-064)16000 Blocker for 3 while you have 2+ fewer DON!!; a 2000 counter
Enel (OP15-118)26-cost 8000: with 6 or fewer DON!! (always), +2000 and their effects can't remove it
El Thor (OP15-075)4DON!! -1: +1000 to one of yours, K.O. a 3000 or less; counter: +2000 to an Enel

Lightning Dragon (OP15-077)4DON!! -1: draw 1; one of their rested 6000-or-less stays rested next turn
Mamaragan (OP15-078)4DON!! -2: draw 1, rest a 5000 or less; a +1000 counter that draws
Varie (OP15-074)3DON!! -1: draw 1, one of yours +2 cost; counter: +2000 to an Enel
Gamma Knife (OP05-077)32-cost; DON!! -1: -5000 on one of theirs
Divine Departure (OP13-076)1+3000 counter; rest 5 DON!!: -8000 on one of theirs

Mulligans

In short
  • Keep two early bodies: two 1-costs, or one 1-cost plus Holly.
  • One or none: mulligan. A hand of Events has nothing to put your DON!! on.
  • Pro's own habit holds up here.
TWO EARLY BODIES = KEEP: TWO 1-COSTS, OR ONE 1-COST PLUS HOLLY. ONE OR NONE = MULLIGAN.
The handPro keepsKept hands won
Two or more 1-costs, with Holly100%69%
Two or more 1-costs, no Holly82%62%
One 1-cost plus Holly74%69%
One 1-cost, no Holly16%57%
No 1-cost9%50% (22 hands)
  • The 1-costs: Ohm, Satori, Shura and the 1-cost Charlotte Pudding (OP12-071). Three or four Events push a hand toward the mulligan.
  • Pro's mulligan holds up: in the same-hand test, its choices did as well as anything (59%, against 58% for always keeping).
  • Keep: Mamaragan, Satori, Holly, Ohm, Varie. Mulligan: Lightning Dragon, Lightning Dragon, Holly, Mamaragan, Senor Pink: Holly but no 1-cost.
  • Players mulligan as often as Pro (49% vs 48%) and win 57% of the hands they keep.

Turn Order: Go 1st

In short
  • Our Pro AI wins 63% going 1st and 52% going 2nd; players 66% and 54%.
  • Your DON!! deck is only 6 cards, so going 2nd gives you no extra DON!! later: it just makes you act second in a race.
  • The exception: Nico Robin, go 2nd. Lean 2nd against Rosinante, Sugar and yellow Enel.
  • Biggest against Buggy (our Pro AI 90% vs 52%; players 72% vs 36%), Law and Luffy ST10 (88% going 1st).
  • What players do: strong players go 1st 98% of the time they choose.

The Game Plan by DON!!

In short
  • Every turn from your 2nd: Events first, then the load, then attack.
  • The load goes on a 1-cost (3 times in 4): a 2000 becomes a 6000.
  • The kill: your 5th or 6th turn.
EVERY TURN FROM YOUR 2ND: SPEND DON!! -1 ON EVENTS, THEN LOAD, THEN ATTACK.
Your turnGoing 1stGoing 2nd
1stA 1-cost: the 1-cost Charlotte Pudding (46%), Ohm (33%) or Satori (17%)Two 1-costs: Satori + Pudding (24%), Ohm + Pudding (22%)
2ndThe first load; Lightning Dragon (50%), another 1-cost or Holly; your Leader attacks (97%)Holly (47%), Shura (31%) or Vinsmoke Reiju (25%), with El Thor or Lightning Dragon; then the load
3rd and 4thTwo or three Events a turn; Trafalgar Law, the 8000 Enel or ReijuThe same
5th and 6thThe kill (60 of Pro's 86 kills)The same
  • Why Events first: the load only adds DON!! that's back in your DON!! deck, so the DON!! you return for an Event comes straight back. Lightning Dragon before the load won 68 times in 106, El Thor 40 in 68, Varie 36 in 63; Mamaragan did better after it (17 in 29).
  • Then swing with the Character you loaded: its DON!! only count on your turn.
  • Ohm or Satori over Pudding early: the one that draws won (36 of 57 and 24 of 42). From Pudding's 4 cards, take Sanji over Lightning Beast Kiten and El Thor over Gamma Knife.
  • They're at about 2 Life by your 4th turn (2.3 going 1st, 2.5 going 2nd).

Fundamentals: Countering, Attacking, Closing

In short
  • Take most hits; counter with Mamaragan (it draws). At 1 Life, take it.
  • Block only at 0 Life: your Blockers are attackers too.
  • Attack the Leader, and add the last DON!! before you swing.
What it takes to stop the attackPro's attacks on the LeaderLanded
A 1000 counter37236%
+200026958%
+300041182%
+4000 to +600023489%
+7000 or more4794%
  • Add the last DON!! first: a loaded 1-cost is a 6000 that asks for +2000 (58% landed); one more DON!! or El Thor's +1000 makes it a 7000 that asks for +3000 (82%). The extra DON!! won 27 times in 38 for Ohm and 21 in 31 for your Leader.
  • Counter with Mamaragan, not your bodies: taking the hit beat countering with Ohm 11 times in 14 and with Sanji 23 in 38. At 1 Life, take it (27 times in 34); at 0 Life, Pro countered 85%.
  • The Leader: 12.1 attacks a game vs 3.2 on Characters (it won 81 close calls in 118); your Events handle their small Characters. Ohm and Satori swing for their abilities even when the hit can't land.
  • The kill: your Leader attacks in 87% of them. Clear their Blockers first with El Thor, Mamaragan or Gamma Knife.
  • Your 8000 Enel is a 10000 their effects can't remove; only Kaido's 10-cost (OP17-063) gets around it.

Xebec (OP17-039)

Practice vs Xebec · Hard AI

  • Go 1st (our Pro AI 60% vs 42%; players 74% vs 56%) and end it early: you win the short games and lose the long ones. Players win 70% here, far above our Pro AI's 51%.
  • Gamma Knife, then El Thor, on Edward Newgate: an 8000 at -5000 is a 3000 that El Thor K.O.s. Kyo (OP17-045) can save a Character from your effect for 2 cards from their hand.
  • Don't counter early: at 5 Life Pro countered none of 12 attacks. At 2 Life, counter (4 of 5 close calls).

Buggy (OP09-042)

Practice vs Buggy · Hard AI

  • Go 1st (our Pro AI 90% vs 52%; players 72% vs 36%). Players win only 54% here, far below our Pro AI's 71%: plan for a close game.
  • Gamma Knife and El Thor on Dracule Mihawk and the 9-cost Alvida: a 7000 at -5000 is a 2000. Crocodile & Mihawk turns your first El Thor each turn into a trashed card; the second gets through.
  • Swing anyway: they counter hard (about 9 counter cards a game), but every counter is a card they don't play.

Sabo (OP13-004)

Practice vs Sabo · Hard AI

  • Go 1st (our Pro AI 74% vs 54%), and don't counter at 5 Life.
  • Everything on Jaguar D. Saul: Lightning Beast Kiten (59% of its uses), Gamma Knife (54%) and Mamaragan (42%). With Saul gone, their 2-costs are 2000s again. El Thor goes on Usopp.
  • Loki (OP17-119) K.O.s your Characters with a total cost of 4 or less; Varie's +2 cost on Holly takes her out of it.

Nico Robin (EB05-010)

Practice vs Nico Robin · Hard AI

  • Go 2nd (our Pro AI 54% vs 42%).
  • All in on the Leader (12.8 attacks a game vs 0.4): K.O.s on their Wisdom Characters feed their Life, damage doesn't. Count one hit more than you see.
  • Your 8000 Enel attacked in all 6 of Pro's kills: Megalo can't touch it.

Trafalgar Law (OP14-001)

Practice vs Trafalgar Law · Hard AI

  • Go 1st (our Pro AI 88% vs 70%). Players win 60% here, below our Pro AI's 79%.
  • Lightning Beast Kiten and Gamma Knife on Jewelry Bonney (a 7000); Lightning Dragon freezes Basil Hawkins instead of K.O.ing it.
  • Their Law (OP14-009) can swap power with their Leader on your attack: your swing into a 5000 meets a 10000.

Kaido, the Luffys, Shirahoshi and yellow Enel

  • Kaido: go 1st (our Pro AI 60% vs 38%) and race; everything on King. Their 10-cost Kaido (OP17-063) is the one card that removes your Enel: Varie's +2 cost keeps it out of range.
  • Luffy OP13: go 1st (30% vs 16%). It's your worst matchup now.
  • Luffy ST10: go 1st. El Thor before Mamaragan (9 of 12), and keep two counters for their extra turn: their Leader swings twice.
  • Shirahoshi: go 1st (players win 57%, our Pro AI 70%). Lightning Dragon before the load, every time (11 of 11 close calls).
  • Yellow Enel: lean 2nd. Their Leader puts a Life card back once a turn on your turn: plan one hit more, and use Holly's Double Attack.

The Mistakes That Cost Games

In short
  • Swinging one DON!! short.
  • Loading before your Events.
  • Countering with Ohm or Sanji, or at 1 Life.

Cheat Sheet

  • Mulligan: two early bodies (two 1-costs, or one 1-cost plus Holly) = keep. One or none: send it back.
  • Turn order: go 1st; 2nd against Robin; lean 2nd against Rosinante, Sugar and yellow Enel.
  • Every turn from your 2nd: Events, then the load (on a 1-cost), then swing. Add the last DON!! first.
  • Defense: take most hits; Mamaragan is your counter; block only at 0 Life.
  • Attack: the Leader. The kill comes on your 5th or 6th turn.
